FMIT Alert Lvl 3: Watching Invest 93L Move Slowly Into The Southern Gulf of Mexico; Projected to Organize in Warm Gulf Waters. 6-19-17

FMIT Alert Level 3
Moderate

FMIT Alert Level 3: Watching Invest 93L Move Slowly Into The Southern Gulf of Mexico; Projected to Organize in Warm Gulf Waters. New NHC Storm Advisory – Potential Tropical Cyclone (PTC) – More Information Below.

FMIT Discussion

  • NEW – The National Hurricane Center released the first-ever Potential Tropical Cyclone (PTC) advisories Sunday afternoon. The new Potential Tropical Cyclone advisories are a way for NHC to offer more information and guidance on storm systems, not yet at Tropical Depression strength, that have a chance of intensifying and bringing tropical storm or hurricane conditions to land within 48 hours. PTCs will be given a number similar to how Tropical Depressions are named and will increase by 1 digit each time they are used. If Invest 93L gains enough strength to warrant PTC status, it will be given PTC Three.
  • This designation should give one more clue and warning as to when storms are predicted to intensify and will be added to FMIT Alerts going forward.
  • Potential Tropical Cyclone Two continues towards the Windward Islands with a possibility of becoming a Tropical Storm as early as this evening.
  • Invest 93L continues to move past the Yucatan Peninsula into the Gulf with a 90% chance of cyclone formation of the next 5 days.
  • Current Spaghetti Models project 93L to make landfall in Louisiana, however because the system remains unorganized, it will be more difficult to determine the exact path until there is a center of circulation.
  • Significant amounts of rain are projected for much of the Gulf Coast of Florida, the most severe of which is the Western Panhandle which could receive anywhere from 5″-8″ through Thursday.
